Acrylic on paper 75x55cm Javier Contreras works out of Otovalo, a small artisan town just north of Quito (where he has a small gallery which he operates with his extended family) selling mainly to the tourists that pass through there. He works mostly with watercolours and, as you can see from the dimension, likes to produce some expansive works. His paintings reflect his culture and environment and he is known for his brilliant use of bright colours, something typical of the Andean indigenous culture.

Oil on canvas 70x50cm Enrique Arevalo Probably the most renowned of our artists, Enrique Arevalo has received commissions from his home city of Guayaquil. Enrique is from the coast and the difference in culture and environment is reflected in the paintings. He describes his art as mystical romanticism that exhibits the people and community of his county. His work with light is nothing short of astonishing and impossible to reproduce in print. Somehow he manages to get his paintings to absorb artificial light to enhance the colours of the sunrays. A number of the pictures were special commissioned by us when we were last there. Enrique is of course very keen to get some exposure in Europe.

Oil on canvas 50x35cm Dina Viga This artist works from Cuenca, a small town in the southern part of the Ecuadorian Andes. She has a street stall where they sell their paintings mostly to foreign tourists, hence the slight "cutesiness" of the pictures. But this doesn't distract from the powerful use of colour and startling representation of Andean culture.
